Sunnyvale, Calif. (December 19, 2024) – Eridan, a startup developing the world’s smallest, lightest, and most efficient 5G radio, today announced it has been awarded $36.8 million in funding from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) under the Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund for radio unit (RU) commercialization. The funding will enable Eridan to commercialize and expand its MIRACLE RU, a breakthrough Open RAN small-cell solution designed to transform wireless network performance, efficiency, and affordability for mobile network operators (MNOs) worldwide.
“At Eridan, we have developed and productized a next-generation radio unit that enables a ten-fold improvement in combined network performance and energy efficiency. This grant will expand and accelerate our 5G radio capabilities to address mainstream telecommunications networks,” said Doug Kirkpatrick, co-founder and CEO of Eridan. “We are excited to work with our key commercialization partners, Verizon, Citymesh, and Rakuten, among many others, in our shared pursuit of this breakthrough American technology connecting people around the globe.”
Eridan was among seven companies selected in this round of funding from NTIA’s Wireless Innovation Fund, a $1.5 billion initiative supported by the CHIPS and Science Act to develop open, resilient, and cost-effective wireless networks.
With this grant, Eridan will accelerate the roadmap development, commercial testing, and interoperability of its MIRACLE RU with MNOs to ensure widespread adoption of this innovative technology.
